Closing day: what you sign and what you bring

Closing is the finish line — the day ownership legally transfers to you. It's mostly signing, and knowing what's coming makes it calm instead of overwhelming.

What to bring:

A government-issued photo ID

Your cash-to-close funds (usually a wire transfer or cashier's check — never a personal check for the full amount)

Any documents your lender or closing agent requested

What you'll sign:

The promissory note — your promise to repay the loan

The mortgage/deed of trust — securing the loan against the home

The Closing Disclosure — the final tally of your loan terms and costs (you get this at least three days early; compare it to your Loan Estimate)

Sign, hand over the funds, and you get the keys. That's it — you're a homeowner.
